Tylecodon paniculatus

The Tylecodon is a fascinating species in the Crassula family, closely related to the Cotyledon. So much so in fact that its name is an anagram of it.

These plants are native to South Africa, where they have evolved to be winter deciduous. This means they shed their leaves in late Spring and Summer, and will re-grow in the colder months. Their watering schedule should be adjusted to take this into account.

This is a mature specimen, with the classic papery bark forming on the thick trunk that is unique to this plant.

Pot size 13cm, height from floor approximately 60cm. The plant will be shipped bare root.

From Paul in Northampton.

About our rescue plants

All our rescue plants are extremely special. In some cases they have been brought into the country many years ago and meticulously cared for in someones back garden for tens of years.

The cost of purchasing & collecting these plants is very high, and usually the plants are complete one-offs. Because of this, we try and pass on as much information as possible. You are purchasing a real piece of history. If you are lucky enough to receive a handwritten name label with your plant, please do keep it with the plant as a reminder of the previous owner.

If not, we encourage you to write your own and re-start the plants labelling in your care.

Care advice

These plants require bright light. Water thoroughly but only when bone dry, and restrict watering from October to around March. See our care advice article for full details.

We also strongly recommend researching the plants name, as our care advice is generic and there may be additional steps to take to allow the plant to thrive.
